August Releases!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

I'll admit that I haven't managed to fit this post in yet, but we're officially in a new month! Which means, more book releases. So, what am I excited to read this month?

1. Kiss My Cupcake by Helena Hunting (11th August)

Kiss My Cupcake by Helena Hunting
Blaire Calloway has planned every Instagram-worthy moment of her cupcake and cocktails shop launch down to the tiniest detail. What she didn't plan on? Ronan Knight and his old-school sports bar next door opening on the very same day. He may be super swoony, but Blaire hasn't spent years obsessing over buttercream and bourbon to have him ruin her chance at success.

From axe throwing (his place) to frosting contests (hers), Blaire and Ronan are constantly trying to one-up each other in a battle to win new customers. But with every clash, there's also an undeniable chemistry. When an even bigger threat to their business comes to town, they're forced to call a temporary time-out on their own war and work together. And the more time Blaire spends getting to know the real Ronan, the more she wonders if it's possible to have her cupcake and eat it too.

2. The Wedding Date Disaster by Avery Flynn (25th August)

The Wedding Date Disaster by Avery Flynn
I can’t believe I have to go home to Nebraska for my sister’s wedding. I’m gonna need a wingman and a whole lot of vodka for this level of family interaction. At least my bestie agreed he’d man up and help. Too bad he had to catch a different flight than me. Then his plane got delayed. And finally—because bad things always happen in threes—instead of my best friend, his evil twin strolls out of the airport.

If you looked up doesn’t-deserve-to-be-that-confident, way-too-hot-for-his-own-good billionaire in the dictionary, you’d find a picture of Will Holt. He’s awful. Horrible. The worst—even if his butt looks phenomenal in those jeans. Ten times worse? My buffer was supposed to be there to keep me away from the million and one family events. But Satan’s spawn just grins and signs us up for every. Single. Thing.

Fine. “Cutthroat” Scrabble? I’m in. I can’t wait to take this guy down a notch. But somewhere between Pictionary and the teasing glint in his eyes, our bickering starts to feel like more than just a game…

3. The Trouble with Quarterbacks by R.S. Grey (6th August)

The Trouble with Quarterbacks by R.S. Grey
CANDACE: KAT & YASMINE! DO NOT DALLY! Come straight home after work. Kat, don’t take the long route from the subway station just so you can pass by Cute Hot Dog Guy. This is important!

I’ve had THE BEST DAY. You won’t believe it. There I was in my preschool classroom, washing a bit of poo out of some soggy trousers, when this absolute babe came to collect his nephew from my class.

Truthfully, I thought I’d blacked out for a moment when I first saw him. He was a proper hunk with glorious brown hair, quite tall, and he had these arms. Are muscly arms supposed to turn me on? I’m panting just thinking about them.

Anyway, he told me he’s a professional foosball player. At least, I think that’s what he said. The tots can get quite loud near pick-up time.

4. The Anti-Boyfriend by Penelope Ward (31st August)

The Anti-Boyfriend by Penelope Ward
At first, my neighbor Deacon frustrated me. Sure, he was great-looking and friendly. But our walls were thin, and on occasion, he’d bring women to his place and keep me awake while he “entertained” them. As a single mother to an infant, I didn’t appreciate it. So, finally it was my turn.

When my daughter wouldn’t stop wailing one night, Mr. Manwhore came knocking on my door. Miraculously, at the sound of his voice, Sunny stopped crying. And when he held her…she eventually fell asleep in his arms. Deacon was rough on the exterior, but apparently on the inside? Mr. Single-and-Ready-to-Mingle was a baby whisperer.

After that night, we became friends. He’d go for coffee runs. Come over to chat. Normal friend stuff. But over time, our conversations ran deeper. We got closer. Until one night we crossed the line. Our friendship turned into a complicated mess. I’d gone and fallen for a guy who’d sworn off commitment and kids. I knew Deacon was starting to care for me too, even though Sunny and I didn’t fit into any plan he’d ever imagined for himself. He was wrong for me—so wrong that I’d dubbed him the “anti-boyfriend.” Then why did I wish more than anything that I could be the one woman to change him?

What are you looking forward to reading this month?

Happy Friday!

We've made it to another Friday! We're officially over halfway done the year now, I don't know how on earth that's happened.

I started out the week letting you know that I was lucky enough to receive an advanced review copy of best-selling romance author Avery Flynn's newest upcoming novel, The Wedding Date Disaster, along with finally finishing designing a book review tracker! The book review tracker has been in the works for some times, as while I do love computers, there's nothing like having it physically in front of you.

If you haven't checked out my reviews this week, click on the picture below to be taken to them:

The Wedding Date Disaster by Avery Flynn       Boy Meets Girl by Meg Cabot

The Author Spotlight this week was on Teresa Medeiros, one of my all-time favourite best-selling romance authors. If you haven't checked it out yet, click here to find out my favourite books from her, and some great new historical romance reads!

Next week I'm continuing to delve back into my old and loved favourites. I'm still finding it hard to actually get into a new series/author/book at the moment - does anyone have any recommendations?

Happy Friday!

But somewhere between Pictionary and the teasing glint in his eyes, our bickering starts to feel like more than just a game…

Thanks to Ms. Flynn and Entangled Publishing, I was lucky enough to receive an Advanced Review Copy of her upcoming romance novel, The Wedding Date Disaster due out 25th August. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

I fell in love with Ms. Flynn's novels back in her Hartigan series with Tomboy, and then followed her through to her Ice Knight series, and then back through her older novels. While I will say that   Tomboy still remains my firm favourite of all her novels, this one may well be tied for first place, and if not, I will say that without doubt, it's her best novel since Tomboy's release.

The enemies to lovers trope is not new, but, all the elements combined in this novel just made it work so well. One of the things that I love best about her novels is that the secondary characters actually are present and provide substance to the story, they're not just mentioned once and never heard from again. While at its core it still remains a romance novel, there were so many elements of family and friendship added that it just worked beautifully and felt like I was dropped into this new world that was fully planned out.

The romance between our two leads is beautiful, steamy and has its heart-breaking moments at times. I'll confess that there were elements thrown in that I didn't expect, and this just made it even better. Both characters are fully formed and likeable, and you just can't help but cheer for them both.

Spoilers Ahead
I will confess that tears were shed during this book, which doesn't usually happen. It did get somewhat emotional at times, and added in (trigger warning: suicide) was a very sad turn in the story where we learn that our heroine's father committed suicide, having an impact on how her relationships and interactions with  family adjusted. It was beautifully written and emotional, and something not just added in for a shock value, but did have a point in the story.
Spoilers Finished

As mentioned above, I think this is Ms. Flynn's best novel to date since Tomboy, and I will confess that it still remains my permanent favorite number one from her, but I think this one definitely has sneaked up to be joint first. A definite must-read, and the perfect summer romance!

Rating: 4.5/5

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you're all doing well, had a fantastic weekend, and hopefully read some great books!

The Wedding Date Disaster by Avery FlynnI've got some quite exciting news in that I was lucky enough to receive an Advanced Reading Copy of best-selling romance author (and one of my personal favourites) Avery Flynn's newest upcoming novel, The Wedding Date Disaster (TWDD). This was started at approximately 11:00pm and finished by 3:30am, and yes, I am quite tired! That review will be coming out tomorrow, so make sure to check back here for that.

I've also got an old favourite that I'm excited to share with you all on Thursday, which is also quite possibly my favourite book ever.
I've also had a few discussions with some of my fellow book lovers about how I keep track of all my books. While I do love my digital organization, I do love having my information at a glance, and while it may be slightly old-fashioned, I do absolutely love having it on paper. And thus, the new book review tracker was born!
Book Review Tracker Log
Quite handy for taking notes of your books while reading them, and along with my personal favourite feature - the quotes section. Click on the picture to be taken through to my Etsy store for purchase. PLUS, receive 10% off from coming through my website with the code THANKS10. Give me a shout if you'd like to have any extra features or pages added in!

Once I finished TWDD on Saturday morning however, I was a bit stumped looking for a next book to read. I tried picking up a few but just couldn't fully get absorbed in. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Hope you all have a fantastic week!

Weekly Round-Up

Welcome to another Friday everyone!

It's been another week of change, and this week has been slightly harder for me to find inspiration to write than others, so please excuse any changes in schedule.

I've read some fantastic books lately that I'm really excited to share with you, and on the other, I've read some books recently that I've honestly not even finished as I couldn't comprehend why on other I was reading something so sad in a book that was meant to be happy. Which leads to my question - do you share books that you couldn't finish?

In case you missed it, I continued my exploration of Kindle Unlimited vs Scribd this week, with a little more information here.

And then I may have completely forgotten which day it was, and published my reviews out of order (my apologies), but check out my reviews this week below (click on the picture to go to the review):

Parental Guidance Ice Knights Series Book 1 by Avery Flynn              Number Neighbors by Emma Hart

Next week I'm really excited to be sharing a book that actually mentions my hometown! I will mention at this point that I have lived in three countries, and have citizenship in two, and in one of those (Canada), I've never seen a book ever mention my hometown - so, please cue the excitement!

What are you reading this weekend?

Happy Release Day To Loud Mouth!

It's release day for Loud Mouth by Avery Flynn! As some of you may know, I've been waiting to read this for quite some time, and if you'll excuse me, I'll be spending the rest of my day with my head in this book.

Loud Mouth Ice Knights Book Three by Avery Flynn
I never meant to say a word, not one single word. But I did. Now because of something I leaked—without even realizing it—I've inadvertently broken up one of the Ice Knights’ most legendary bromances. And worse—I've kicked hockey star Ian Petrov's grumpy level to insane levels of grump.

And what could make it worse? How about the two of us being trapped together in a remote cabin after a massive blizzard. Neither of us can leave. Just us, the snow, his resentment, and OMG sexual tension so thick it would take a snowplow to break through it.

I’ve got to get out of here before I do something even dumber than I’ve already done and kiss the sexy with his misplaced anger and perfect pecs. That would be the worst, the absolute worst. But… would it be terrible if we gave in? Just a little? It’s not like we’re ever going to have to spend time together again. Until the next morning when we’re told we have to play chummy for the press until this news cycle blows over. F.M.L.

Now, speaking of Amazon, I posted a couple of weeks ago about ebook providers and who provides the better service, Amazon Kindle, or Scribd (if you missed it, catch it here). Given that my Scribd membership was finally up after my accidental year purchase, I decided after seeing quite a few good things about Amazon Kindle to take the plunge, and try a Kindle Unlimited membership with them.

All was going well until I got a bit too book happy and was informed that I was only permitted to 'borrow' 10 books at a time, and then had to return them before I could take more out. I'm a person who absolutely loves re-reading the same book over and over. I've read Teresa Medeiros' The Bride & The Beast at least twenty times easily, and that's just one book. I will say that I have some reservations about only being able to take ten books at a time as I do love to see my library grow. It's early days yet, but I will say the rose-coloured glasses are slightly slipping.

Has anyone else tried Kindle Unlimited or Scribd yet, and can anyone recommend where they get their ebooks from?

Happy reading!

Weekly Round-Up!

It's hard to believe we're almost at the end of June, and almost half the way through the year! We've had some fantastic novels released this year and still more yet to come.

Loud Mouth, Ice Knights Book 3, by Avery Flynn
I absolutely cannot wait for Avery Flynn's newest novel in her Ice Knight's series, Loud Mouth, releasing this Monday, 22nd June, watch out for it!

If you haven't read the other books in the series it doesn't hurt, they are standalone novels, but honestly, highly recommended. Ms. Flynn's Hartigan series exist in the same universe as the Ice Knights, and they're like Peanut Butter & Chocolate, yes, independently they're both great, but together? Cue heart eyes.

I'd recommend starting off with the Hartigan series with Butterface (you can check out my review here) and that way you can get a full introduction, and I will let you know that my favourite of the series is Tomboy, it's utter perfection. Then the Ice Knight series starts off with Parental Guidance, also utter perfection. Honestly, the perfect series to lose yourself in at the moment.

So what have I been up to this week? Well, I'll confess that I am having a hard time getting into new books at the moment. I picked up a really interesting romance book that I'd been excited about and without spoiling which book it was, I was horrified to be reading mid-book and find out that the hero accidentally killed his sister when he was younger and it describes in light detail how she'd accidentally been locked in a trunk. Added into the fact the heroine had just been almost sexually assaulted, I quickly and unfortunately put this down. I've also read another two books that I was really excited for and they just fell flat. I'm not sure if it was because I was too excited to read them and they fell flat, or they genuinely were flat, but maybe something I'll have to pick up.

But onto what I've actually been posting this week. I've started posting films to cheer you up and lift your spirits at the weekend. If you've missed it, check it out here, and don't miss the film recommendation this Saturday!

I've also had a quick review of the best books I've read so far this year here, and two great books that I've reviewed (click the cover to be taken to the review).

The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez        Butterface Hartigan Series Book One by Avery Flynn

I may have also mentioned that I'm a bit stuck for book recommendations at the moment, so please let me know what fantastic books you're currently reading!

Have a fantastic weekend and happy reading!
