Saturday Night Film Night

Hi everyone! I hope you've all had fantastic weeks and read some great books.

Welp, it's officially official, I have now entered my third decade and moved from my 20s into my 30s! I still don't understand where the time went either...

And since it's my actual birthday now, I think that means that since it's my day, I get to choose my favourite film! Having said that though, I don't actually have one specific one, there's a lot, depending on my mood. So what am I watching tonight?

Set It Up 2008 film

Two corporate executive assistants hatch a plan to match-make their two bosses.

I love rom-coms who show a plot outside of just the romance story. I know they're going to fall in love with each other, that's the point! But I want substance in my story. And this film does that perfectly. Adding in a perfect strangers to friends to lovers, it just works perfectly. I will also say that our male lead is also really easy on the eyes ;)

Hope you all have a fantastic evening and let me know what you're reading this week!

Saturday Night Film Night

Welcome to another Saturday Night Film Night! Surprisingly enough for me (as this is predominately a book website), the most popular post of this site so far is a Saturday Night Film Night edition (here). So, I'm hoping you keep liking them and let me know what you're watching!

What am I watching tonight? Tonight's film is What's Your Number, starring Anna Faris and Chris Evans.

A woman looks back at the past nineteen men she's had relationships with in her life and wonders if one of them might be her true love.

It's always an interesting premise thinking of one's number, and I'll admit, this film made me realize some important truths. For some reason, older romance novels that I read always tended to mention either directly or indirectly, how many 'relationships' both our leads had been in, and tended to focus on the fact that the heroine had not, while the hero had. This unconsciously formed an opinion in my mind about my relationships (what can I say? I was young and impressionable), and this film made me really question that.

Combining it all together though, I really did just genuinely love this film. Chris Evans is simply gorgeous, and Anna Faris always makes me laugh. Honestly, a fantastic film to watch!

Saturday Night Film Night

Who doesn't need a night of just pure happiness? For me, books and films are about escaping into a happy reality. When I'm in the right mood, I do love historical and action films, but a lot of the time recently, I just need something to just make me happy, and that's why this week, I'm watching the Princess Diaries.

The Princess Diaries

Mia Thermopolis has just found out that she is the heir apparent to the throne of Genovia. With her friends Lilly and Michael Moscovitz in tow, she tries to navigate through the rest of her sixteenth year.

I still remember the day that my friend showed me the Princess Diaries series, somewhere at the tender age of 11. I immediately fell in love and continued eagerly reading and awaiting the rest of the series, and reading the rest of Ms. Cabot's works. So you can imagine my joy when this was turned into a film! And then another one came out!

The film doesn't follow the books, something which is actually hilariously addressed in the books by Ms. Cabot, but that doesn't make it any less perfect. Also, you have Chris Pine and Julie Andrews. So, I don't see how they can be anything less than perfect! I have read that there will also be a third film releasing at some point, I'm not sure the full accuracy to this (I've been awaiting the announcement of National Treasure 3 for over 8 years now...), but I'm crossing my fingers!

Honestly, the book series itself is my favourite book series of all time (no exaggeration), and the films are just the perfect cherry on top!

What are you watching this weekend?

Saturday Night Film Night

Happy Saturday everyone! I hope your weekends are all fantastic.

I'll confess that the outside world has got to me a bit this week, so I have been a bit more stilted than usual. I've been trying to keep myself busy and occupied, and this week it was just too much business and occupation, and too much real world. So, this weekend I could do with some extra cheering up! And to this end, to one of my favourite films:

In a countryside town bordering on a magical land, a young man makes a promise to his beloved that he'll retrieve a fallen star by venturing into the magical realm.

Another book turned into a movie, I haven't actually read the book by Neil Gaiman, although it is on my to read. I was a late-comer to this film, only discovering it last year (2019), but it became a firm favourite. An enemies-to-lovers romance, magic, romance, people discovering that being who they are is the best thing - it's just fabulous.

The romance is breath-taking, but the plot itself is phenomenal, and each story interweaves perfectly with each other. Comedic, light-hearted but with substance, this is definitely a film to rewatch over and over.

What's your favourite cheer-up film?

Saturday Night Film Night

Welcome back to another Saturday Night Film Night!

Another firm favourite, and originally a book by Jenny Han, To All The Boys I've Loved Before is the first in her P.S. I Love You series. Picked up by Netflix, and then the second and third books quickly booked up and turned into films, there's plenty of viewing time to watch!

To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

A teenage girl's secret love letters are exposed and wreak havoc on her love life.

I'll admit I didn't think I'd like these films as much as I do. There's something so quiet and understated, but powerful about them, that they just work perfectly. The cast is incredible, and Noah Centineo definitely emerged in the public eye after this, but all together the cast are phenomenal. Lara-Jean and her family make you want to be part of them, and they all have screen time and are important to the overall story.

Honestly, this film is just magical with its love story, go watch.

Saturday Night Film Night

Checking out the most popular post of this week, I was a little shocked and happy to find it was Saturday Night Film Night! So, what are we watching this weekend?

27 Dresses Katherine Heigl James Marsden

After serving as a bridesmaid 27 times, a young women wrestles with the idea of standing by her sister's side as her sibling marries the man she's secretly in love with.

Also one of my favourite the films, 27 Dresses is just magical. It does resonate with me for a variety of reasons, but everything about this film is fabulous. I would like to ask who hasn't fallen in love with James Marsden by the end of this (definitely not me), and the two leads just match perfectly. There's fun, romance, a great supporting cast that we do get to know, and also a great musical number.

What are you watching this weekend?

Saturday Night Film Night!

What are you watching this Saturday night? I'm purely on a happiness kick at the moment, so we're watching When in Rome.

When in Rome - Kristen Bell & Josh Duhamel
Beth is a young, ambitious New Yorker who is completely unlucky in love. However, on a whirlwind trip to Rome, she impulsively steals some coins from a reputed fountain of love, and is then aggressively pursued by a band of suitors.

I don't know if I can possibly love Josh Duhamel in a film anymore than this film. OK, well, we'll debate that over the next few weeks. But he's honestly just perfection in this one. 100% worth many rewatches.
